My holy grail torch has been grumpy for a week or so now. Today I noticed its mouth was very open and looking extra worse for wear.
Making a last minute attempt to help it recover I decided to try the famous KFC Dip – A game changer in keeping healthy Euphyllia.
The only ingredient I wasn’t able to obtain was the Brightwell Restor. My partner being in the medical field was able to help with getting the other medications.
I opted to dip the coral for 2.5 hours. The recipe creators indicate they’ve been known to dip for up to 48 hours but I didn’t feel comfortable about that.

The coral came out of the bath ok and I didn’t see any indication of brown jelly disease or a strong smell of decay for the time I was treating it – so I still had hope.
Unfortunately 3-4 days later the tips started to come away and the coral died. I pulled it out of my tank asap to avoid it setting off any other torches.
A very disappointing (and expensive) loss. Thankfully I don’t have too many losses these days but its still upsetting.
I’d witnessed some snails irritating the coral and even a couple had fallen on its mouth (or decided they wanted in) so It’s hard to say what was the exact cause.
For now that will likely have been the last torch I purchase.
